Summer 2008 Internship Application Information

Introduction:
The Wells Center for Pediatric Research, a highly supportive environment for interactive basic science and clinical research, is a fast-paced, cutting edge research facility, which offers a unique environment for training. The goal of research in the Wells Center is to improve the understanding and treatment of devastating diseases which affect children.

Program Format/Goals:
Students will be paired with individual faculty in one of 30 laboratories. The summer research project will be defined in consultation with this faculty. A number of seminars and research-related laboratory and center meetings are held each week. Students and their mentors are strongly encouraged to attend these meetings. Students are also strongly encouraged to attend other academic events that involve the Wells Center faculty (e.g., Wednesday combined seminar series, seminars of faculty candidates, Weekly Basic Science Research Forum and Pediatric Faculty Research Semniar Series). Interns are required to make a presentation at the completion of the internship.

Eligibility:
Undergraduate and Graduate students in a science major. Preference will be given to college undergraduate and graduate students, but high school students (seniors) may also apply. Per Environmental Health and Safetey guidelines, persons must be 18 years of age to work in the laboratories.

Housing and Transportation:
Students are responsible for arranging their own housing and transportation.

Stipend: $2,500

Duration: 10 weeks (June 2, 2008 to August 8, 2008).

Application Timeline:
Applications will be accepted from December, 2007 to March 14, 2008. All required materials must be received in our office by March 14, 2008 for the application to be considered complete.
